Rainforest trails, cascading falls, and charming villages — a full day beyond the coast

Book This Tour

Tour Overview

Escape the beaches for a day and discover the lush hinterland behind the Sunshine Coast. This fully guided day tour winds through the Blackall Range, taking in the rainforest canopy at Kondalilla National Park, the swimming holes of Gardners Falls, and the artisan villages of Maleny and Montville — all with the dramatic backdrop of the Glass House Mountains on the horizon. Your expert local guide handles the driving and navigation so you can relax, photograph, and soak it all in.

The tour suits all ages and fitness levels. The main waterfall walks follow well-maintained tracks, and the village stops are flat and leisurely. An ideal choice for couples, families, photographers, and anyone who loves a good waterfall.

What You'll Experience

Kondalilla National Park

Follow the rainforest trail down to the 80-metre Kondalilla Falls. Spot pademelons, brush turkeys, and king parrots along the boardwalk before reaching the viewing platform above the cascade.

Gardners Falls

A local favourite for a reason — a series of rock pools and gentle cascades surrounded by towering gums. Bring your swimmers for a dip or relax on the rocks while your guide shares stories of the region.

Maleny & Montville Villages

Browse galleries, cheese shops, fudge makers, and bookshops in two of Queensland's most charming hinterland villages. Lunch is at your own pace from a choice of excellent local cafés.

Glass House Mountains Lookout

Pause at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve lookout for one of the Sunshine Coast's most iconic views — the volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains rising above the subtropical canopy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the tour?

The tour runs for approximately 8.5 hours, with pick-up around 08:00 and drop-off around 16:45. Exact times vary slightly depending on your pick-up location.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes. Children of all ages are welcome. The waterfall walks are manageable for most school-aged kids, and the swimming at Gardners Falls is a big hit with families. Younger children should be carried on the Kondalilla trail.

Can I swim at the waterfalls?

Swimming is available at Gardners Falls, which has shallow rock pools suitable for a refreshing dip. The pool at Kondalilla Falls is accessible but involves a steeper walk. Your guide will advise on conditions on the day.

What if it rains?

Light rain often makes the hinterland even more atmospheric — the rainforest comes alive. The tour proceeds in light rain, but if severe weather makes trails unsafe, your guide will adjust the itinerary with alternative stops such as local galleries, the Maleny Botanic Gardens, or a Montville brewery visit.

Where will I be picked up?

We offer door-to-door pick-up and drop-off from most Sunshine Coast accommodation between Caloundra and Noosa. Please provide your hotel or address when booking.

Do I need to be fit?

The tour is rated easy to moderate. The Kondalilla Falls walk includes steps and uneven ground (2.4 km return), but a shorter lookout option is available. The village stops and Gardners Falls access are gentle and suitable for all fitness levels.
