When to Go

Best Time to Play Golf in Australia

Australia's size means there is always a region in its prime golf season. Here's our region-by-region seasonal guide.

Autumn in Melbourne delivers perfect firm, fast conditions on the world-famous Sandbelt.

Seasonal Playing Guide

☀️ Queensland (Year-Round)

Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast golf is excellent all year. June–August (winter) is the sweet spot — mild, dry, 20–25 °C with no humidity. Summer brings warm mornings but occasional afternoon storms.

🍂 Melbourne Sandbelt (Nov–Apr)

Spring and summer deliver long warm days and the firm, fast turf conditions the Sandbelt is famous for. Autumn is superb. Winter is cool and can be wet but playable. Best: November to April.

🌊 Tasmania (Dec–Mar)

Barnbougle and Cape Wickham are at their most inviting in summer and early autumn. Wind is always a factor on these exposed links — that's part of the magic. Best: December to March.

🌺 South Australia (Oct–Apr)

Royal Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula courses are excellent in spring and autumn. Summer can be very hot — early tee times are essential. Pair with Barossa or McLaren Vale wine touring.

What Our Golfers Say

★★★★★

"The 7-day Melbourne and Tasmania tour was genuinely one of the greatest experiences of my life. Playing Barnbougle Dunes in the morning and Lost Farm in the afternoon in the same day — with a perfect sunset over Bass Strait — was something I'll never forget. Flawlessly organised."

"Our corporate golf day at Royal Pines was superb. Cooee handled absolutely everything — transfers, catering, prizes, the lot. The team had a brilliant day and we've already booked our 2026 event. The winery dinner at Tamborine Mountain was the icing on the cake."

"Four mates, Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath back-to-back over two days. I've played Augusta, Pebble Beach, St Andrews — and I'd rank this Sandbelt trip right there with any of them. The quality of the courses and the seamless service made it genuinely world-class."

FAQ

Golf Tours FAQs

What is included in a Cooee golf holiday?

All golf tours include green fees at premium courses, luxury accommodation, private transfers between courses and hotels, and expert tour coordination. Optional extras such as winery visits, spa treatments, fine dining, and cooking experiences can be woven in. Specific inclusions are listed in your personalised itinerary proposal. Contact us to discuss exactly what you'd like included.

Which are the best golf courses in Australia?

Australia's top courses include Royal Melbourne (West Course, Top 10 World), Kingston Heath and Yarra Yarra on Melbourne's Sandbelt; Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm in Tasmania; Cape Wickham on King Island; RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast; The Glades (Greg Norman design); and The Australian Golf Club in Sydney. We have access to tee times at all of these, including exclusive private clubs.

Can golf tours be fully customised?

Absolutely — customisation is the entire premise of our service. You choose the courses, accommodation tier, dining preferences, winery and leisure add-ons, group size, and travel dates. We then build your itinerary from scratch. Whether you want three rounds in three days or a 10-day multi-region odyssey, we design around your wish list. Contact us with your preferences for a complimentary proposal.

What is the best time of year to play golf in Australia?

Queensland's Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are year-round destinations — winter (June to August) is particularly ideal with mild, dry conditions of 20–25 °C. Melbourne's Sandbelt is best November to April for warm, long summer days and firm turf. Tasmania's Barnbougle and Cape Wickham are best December to March. South Australia plays well October to April. We'll recommend the ideal timing based on your preferred destinations.

Do you cater for corporate golf events?

Yes — corporate golf is a speciality. We manage corporate golf days, incentive travel programs, conference-linked experiences, and team-building golf events from end to end: venue booking, tee time management, catering, branding, prizes, transfers, and post-round entertainment. Contact us at least 6–8 weeks in advance for corporate events to ensure course and venue availability.

What skill level or handicap do I need?

All levels are welcome. Many private courses require a golf handicap certificate — we advise this when planning your itinerary. For groups with mixed abilities, we select a variety of course types to suit everyone. We can arrange professional coaching clinics at select courses for guests who want to sharpen their game before or during the tour.

Do you organise golf equipment hire and transport?

Yes. We can arrange premium club hire at each course so you don't need to travel with your own clubs. We also arrange secure equipment storage and transport between courses. Golf buggies are included where available. Caddies can be arranged at select courses with advance notice — highly recommended for the Sandbelt private clubs.

Can golf be combined with wine, food, or sightseeing?

Absolutely — and this is where Cooee Tours excels. We seamlessly combine championship golf with cellar door visits to the Gold Coast hinterland wineries, Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsula vineyards after Melbourne rounds, or Tasmanian produce trails alongside your links golf. Non-playing partners are also well catered for with dedicated sightseeing, spa, and culinary programs running in parallel.

Do you arrange international golf travel?

Yes. We operate golf tours to New Zealand (Queenstown, Taupo, and Northland are highlights) and can assist with multi-country golf packages. Ask about our combined Australia and New Zealand golf itineraries, which are particularly popular for golfers visiting from the UK and USA.
