Barossa Valley Wine Tours

Shiraz · Grenache · Cabernet Sauvignon · Riesling · Mataro

Australia's most iconic wine region, the Barossa Valley is home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines on the planet — many over 150 years old. Just an hour north-east of Adelaide, the region combines bold reds, historic estates, and an extraordinary food culture driven by Germanic heritage.

Our Barossa tours include exclusive barrel tastings at revered producers like Penfolds, Henschke and Seppeltsfield, paired with long lunches at Appellation and Fermentasian. Walk through pre-phylloxera vineyards, blend your own wine, and explore the Barossa's famed artisan producers — from Maggie Beer's Farm Shop to Barossa Valley Cheese Company.

Our Margaret River itineraries pair world-class wine with ocean views, ancient caves, truffle farms, and artisan chocolate makers. Hunter Valley Wine Tours

Sémillon · Shiraz · Chardonnay · Verdelho · Tempranillo

Australia's oldest wine region — established in the 1820s — the Hunter Valley is just two hours north of Sydney. The region is world-renowned for its unique aged Sémillon, a bone-dry white that develops honeyed complexity over decades in the bottle.

Our Hunter tours take you to the heart of the region's 150+ cellar doors. Taste benchmark wines at Tyrrell's, Brokenwood and Mount Pleasant, then settle into long lunches at Muse Restaurant and Bistro Molines. Visit boutique producers in the lesser-known Broke Fordwich sub-region, join a vineyard picnic among the vines, or extend your trip with a day in the nearby Blue Mountains.

FAQ

Wine Tour Questions & Answers

What is the best time of year for an Australian wine tour?

Australia's wine regions are spectacular year-round, each season offering something unique. Harvest season (February to April) is the most exciting time to visit — you can join grape picking and watch the winemaking process in action. Autumn (March–May) delivers beautiful foliage and comfortable temperatures. Winter (June–August) is ideal for Margaret River's truffle season and cosy cellar-door experiences. Spring (September–November) brings wildflowers and new vintage releases. Browse our seasonal wine tour guide for more detail.

How many wineries do you visit per day?

We typically visit three to four wineries per day, though this varies by tour and region. We believe in quality over quantity — longer, more intimate tastings rather than rushed five-minute stops. Each visit lasts 30–60 minutes and often includes behind-the-scenes access not available to walk-in visitors.

Can I customise my wine tour itinerary?

Absolutely. Every Cooee wine tour can be tailored to your preferences — whether you want to focus on a specific grape variety, include particular wineries, add dining experiences, or combine two regions. Get in touch with our planning team and we'll design a bespoke itinerary just for you.

What's included in the tour price?

All Cooee wine tours are fully inclusive: luxury vehicle transport, all accommodation (multi-day tours), meals as listed in the itinerary, winery tasting fees, guide/sommelier services, and return transfers. The only extras are optional add-ons like helicopter flights or spa treatments, and personal wine purchases from cellar doors. Full details are on each tour page.

Are your tours suitable for wine beginners?

Yes — our tours cater to everyone from casual wine drinkers to serious collectors. Our guides adapt the experience to the group's level of knowledge and interest. Whether you're learning the difference between Shiraz and Cabernet or debating vintage variation in Barossa single-vineyard wines, you'll feel right at home.

Can I ship wine home from the cellar doors?

Most wineries offer domestic shipping within Australia, and many can arrange international shipping for overseas visitors. Our guides can help you coordinate purchases and shipping logistics. For international guests, we recommend checking Australian Border Force duty-free guidelines for allowances.

What group sizes do you operate?

Our small-group tours have a maximum of 12 guests, ensuring intimate access and personal attention. We also offer private tours for couples, families, and groups of any size. Private tour options are available for all regions.
