Whitehaven Beach is the centrepiece — 7 kilometres of 98% pure silica sand so white and fine it doesn't retain heat. At its northern end, Hill Inlet's tidal swirling of white sand and turquoise water creates patterns that shift with every tide. No permanent accommodation exists on the beach; every visitor arrives by boat, which keeps the experience exactly as extraordinary as it should be.

Whitehaven Beach & Hill Inlet

Consistently ranked among the world's best beaches, Whitehaven's 7km stretch of 98% pure silica sand stays brilliantly white and cool underfoot regardless of temperature. Access is by boat only — no roads, no shops, no crowds except from tours. Hill Inlet at the northern end swirls sand and water in constantly changing patterns of blue, green and white depending on the tide.

  • Best views: Hill Inlet Lookout (15-min walk from North Whitehaven)

The outer Bait Reef — the closest outer reef site to Airlie Beach — delivers outstanding visibility and diverse marine life.
