Africa Safari FAQ

Everything Australian travellers ask before booking an African safari with Cooee Tours.

For East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), the dry season June–October offers the best game viewing and coincides with the Great Migration river crossings — July–September is peak for this spectacle. Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia) is best May–October. Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda is year-round, with dry seasons June–September and December–February most comfortable for trekking through the rainforest.
Yes — consult your GP or a travel health clinic at least 6–8 weeks before departure. Yellow fever vaccination is required for Uganda and Rwanda and recommended for other East African countries. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended for most safari regions. Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccinations are also advised. Cooee Tours provides a detailed health and vaccinations guide at time of booking tailored to your specific itinerary.
Our Africa safari packages typically include all accommodation (lodges, tented camps and/or guesthouses as applicable), all game drives and guided activities as listed in the itinerary, national park and conservancy entry fees, most meals and qualified English-speaking field guides. International flights from Australia are not included. Gorilla trekking permits, balloon safaris and certain optional activities are listed and priced separately per itinerary.
Absolutely. Many of our safari guests travel solo, and the small-group format — typically 10–14 guests — is ideal for connecting with like-minded Australian travellers. Single supplement options are available on most itineraries. If you prefer the comfort of a shared room, we can often arrange compatible roommates from within the group. Solo travellers consistently rate our safaris among their best travel experiences.
Game viewing is conducted from purpose-built 4WD vehicles with pop-up roofs, allowing excellent sightlines and photography opportunities at close but safe distances that respect animal behaviour. Our qualified field guides read animal behaviour expertly and know how to position vehicles without disturbing the wildlife. Walking safaris on selected itineraries allow even more intimate encounters with the bush environment at ground level.
