"Standing on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon as the sun set and turned the walls every shade of red, orange and purple was genuinely one of the most emotional moments of my life. The Cooee group was the perfect size — we all became friends by day three."

Americas Tours FAQ

Everything Australians ask before booking an Americas holiday with Cooee Tours.

Australian passport holders need an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) to visit the USA. Apply online at esta.cbp.dhs.gov before departure — it costs USD $21 and is valid for 2 years for multiple visits up to 90 days. For Canada, an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is required — apply online for CAD $7, valid for 5 years. Most South American countries are visa-free for Australians for up to 90 days. Always verify current requirements at Smartraveller.gov.au before booking.
US national parks and the Canadian Rockies are best June–September when mountain passes are accessible and weather is reliably warm. New England's famous fall foliage peaks late September to mid-October. New York City is enjoyable year-round. Alaska cruises operate May–September. For South America, Peru (Machu Picchu) is best April–October during the dry season. Patagonia is best December–March for trekking, matching Australian summer.
Direct flights from Sydney or Melbourne to Los Angeles are approximately 13–14 hours — the most common connection point. Flights to New York or Washington DC are typically 20–22 hours with one stop through LA, Dallas or Houston. Vancouver is 14–16 hours. South American cities (Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago) are 20–24 hours, typically routing through Los Angeles or Auckland. Most guests plan a minimum of 14–21 days to make the long journey fully worthwhile.
Our Americas packages typically include quality hotel accommodation, expert English-speaking local guides, air-conditioned coach or train transport as listed in the itinerary, national park entry fees and listed admissions, and selected meals. International flights from Australia are not included — this allows flexibility to book your preferred airline and routing. Domestic flights within North or South America are included where specified in the itinerary details.
Absolutely — combining both continents is popular and makes excellent use of the long-haul journey from Australia. A common combination is routing via Los Angeles to add a few nights in California before flying south to Lima for Peru. Other popular pairings include Canadian Rockies with a Patagonia extension, or USA East Coast with Buenos Aires and Iguazú. Our custom tour team specialises in building multi-country Americas itineraries — allow at least 3–4 weeks for a combined trip and contact us to start planning.
