Greece Tour Itineraries

Detailed day-by-day breakdowns for our three signature Greece tours — each balancing ancient wonders, authentic local encounters and the unhurried rhythm of Greek life.

D1
Arrive Athens — Plaka OrientationPrivate transfer from Athens International Airport. Evening orientation walk through Plaka's cobblestoned alleys with their neo-classical houses and family tavernas. Welcome dinner with a view of the Acropolis glowing gold against the night sky.
D2
The Acropolis & Acropolis MuseumEarly morning ascent before the crowds arrive. Expert archaeologist guide explains the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike and Theatre of Dionysus in full context. Afternoon in the state-of-the-art Acropolis Museum with original friezes and reconstructed temple sculptures.
D3
Ancient Agora, Monastiraki & Street Food WalkGuided visit to the Ancient Agora — Athens's civic heart — and the remarkably intact Temple of Hephaestus. Afternoon street-food walk through Monastiraki: koulouri (sesame rings), spanakopita, souvlaki and loukoumades with honey.
D4
Delphi Full DayDrive northwest through Boeotia to Delphi — once called the omphalos (navel) of the ancient world. Expert guide covers the Temple of Apollo, Sacred Way, ancient theatre and the Delphi Museum's extraordinary charioteer bronze. Mountain taverna lunch. Return to Athens for a free evening in Kolonaki.
D5
Athens Free Morning & DepartSlow morning at a rooftop café. Optional National Archaeological Museum visit for Greece's finest antiquities. Private transfer to Athens International Airport or continue to Santorini by ferry or flight.
D1
Arrive Santorini — Caldera OrientationTransfer from Santorini airport (JTR) or ferry port to your caldera-view hotel. Afternoon orientation walk along the crater rim — your first view of the dramatic 400-metre cliff drop to the sea. Welcome dinner of fresh Aegean seafood, fava (split pea purée) and Assyrtiko wine overlooking the caldera.
D2
Akrotiri & Volcanic WineryMorning guided visit to Akrotiri — the Bronze Age city buried under Santorini's volcanic ash around 1627 BC and perfectly preserved. Often called the 'Minoan Pompeii', it predates Pompeii by 1,700 years. Afternoon at a family winery planted on volcanic pumice — learn the unique kouloura vine-training method and taste Assyrtiko, Nykteri and Vinsanto.
D3
Caldera Boat Trip & Oia at SunsetHalf-day small boat excursion to the active volcanic islet of Nea Kameni, the warm thermal hot springs of Palea Kameni, and the hidden sea cave of Skaros. Swim in sheltered bays. Return to Oia for the legendary sunset — we time the walk to arrive with space to breathe and choose your viewing spot before the crowds.
D4
Leisure Morning & DepartFree morning — perhaps a sunrise walk on the caldera path when Oia is utterly deserted, a spa treatment in your cave hotel, or a final café with the Aegean below. Transfer to ferry or airport. Optional connection to Mykonos, Naxos, Rhodes or Athens.
D1
Arrive Heraklion — KnossosArrive in Heraklion (HER) and visit the Palace of Knossos with a specialist guide — the heart of Minoan civilisation, Europe's first advanced urban culture. Evening in Heraklion's old harbour for a relaxed dinner of fresh seafood and local Cretan wine.
D2
Heraklion Archaeological Museum & MarketThe world's finest collection of Minoan art — the bull-leaping fresco, Snake Goddess figurines and the Phaistos Disc. Afternoon exploring the Varvakios central market, buying local thyme honey, herbs and raki (tsikoudia) from family producers.
D3
Mountain Villages & Olive Oil EstateDrive south into the foothills to visit a family olive oil estate — walk the groves, visit the press and taste oils of different harvest and ripeness stages. Overnight in a traditional stone guesthouse in a mountain village where the pace of life is centuries removed from the resorts below.
D4
Samaria Gorge Hike (seasonal) or Sfakia CoastFor active travellers in season (May–October), a guided 16km walk through the Samaria Gorge — the longest gorge in Europe — emerging at the crystal Libyan Sea. Alternative: a boat trip along the Sfakia coastline to secluded beaches accessible only from the water.
D5
Family Cooking SessionMorning with a local Cretan family: cheese-making (anthotyro and graviera), traditional dakos bread preparation, stuffed vine leaves and a meal eaten together. The afternoon is free to explore a nearby Byzantine church or relax at a coastal village café.
D6
East Crete & Vai Palm ForestDrive to eastern Crete for Vai — Europe's only native palm forest stretching behind a pristine white beach — and the quiet fishing town of Sitia. Optional boat trip to secluded coves. Farewell dinner with the best of Cretan cuisine: lamb slow-cooked in Cretan herbs, fresh dakos and local honey pastries.
D7
Free Morning & Depart HeraklionSlow last morning — last café, last market purchase. Transfer to Heraklion Airport or ferry port for onward connection to Athens, Santorini or your international flight.

Iconic Greek Experiences

Ancient philosophy, sun-drenched islands, volcanic landscapes and the world's finest olive oil — Greece rewards those who take the time to explore beyond the postcard.

🏛

Acropolis at Dawn

Beat the crowds with an early entry to the Acropolis — the Parthenon in warm morning light with virtually nobody else there is one of the world's great travel experiences.

🌅

Santorini Sunset

The caldera sunset at Oia is famous for a reason — the light, the silhouette of the windmills and the reflection on the sea combine in a spectacle that genuinely deserves its reputation.

Aegean Boat Trips

From Santorini's volcanic caldera circuit to Crete's Sfakia coastal caves and Rhodes's secluded coves — the Aegean is best explored from the water.

🍷

Volcanic Wine Tasting

Santorini's Assyrtiko grape grown on volcanic pumice produces one of Greece's most distinctive wines — mineral, crisp and unlike anything else in the Mediterranean.

🧑‍🍳

Greek Cooking Classes

Hands-on cooking sessions with local families — learning to make spanakopita, slow-cooked lamb, fresh mezze and the extraordinary pastries of Crete's mountain villages.

Meteora Monasteries

Byzantine monks built monasteries atop vertical sandstone pillars — accessible today by carved steps, these extraordinary structures remain home to working monastic communities.

🏺

Minoan Civilisation

Knossos's labyrinthine palace and Akrotiri's perfectly preserved Bronze Age city offer a direct connection to Europe's oldest advanced civilisation — 5,000 years of unbroken history.

🫒

Olive Oil & Honey

Greek olive oil and thyme honey are among the world's finest produce — visiting the farms, meeting the families and tasting the difference between harvests is a revelation.

🫒
Authentic Local EncountersWe prioritise real experiences over tourist versions — cooking with actual Cretan families, wine tasting with the winemaker present, market visits before the tourist hours begin.

Greece Tour Reviews

From Australian travellers who have explored Greece with Cooee Tours.

★★★★★

"We arrived at the Acropolis at opening and had the Parthenon almost to ourselves. Our guide Eleni explained the history of every column — I've been to Athens twice before and never understood it the way she made us understand it. A completely different experience."

★★★★★

"Santorini at sunset was everything the photographs promise — and more. What surprised me was how much more there was beyond the views: the Akrotiri ruins were jaw-dropping, and the volcanic wine tasting with the family who owns the vineyard was the highlight of our Greece trip."

"Crete was extraordinary — far more than we expected. The cooking session with the family in the mountain village made us cry, actually. The warmth, the food, the hospitality. Cooee made every detail feel genuinely considered rather than packaged. We've booked the Greek Islands Hopper for next year."

Greece Tours FAQ

Everything Australians ask before booking a Greece holiday with Cooee Tours.

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) are the ideal times to visit Greece — warm enough to swim (24–28°C), far fewer crowds than peak summer, and ideal light for photography. July and August are the hottest months (often 35°C+) with maximum crowds at every site and island. Greek Easter (varies each year) is an extraordinary cultural experience if your timing aligns. These shoulder seasons match well with many Australian school holiday windows.
Australian passport holders can enter Greece and all Schengen Area countries visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The European ETIAS (Electronic Travel Information and Authorisation System) is expected to require a simple online pre-travel authorisation — check the Australian Government Smartraveller website for the latest requirements before booking. There are no visa fees currently for Australians visiting Greece.
Greek islands are connected by regular high-speed ferry services and short domestic flights. High-speed catamarans take approximately 2 hours between Athens (Piraeus) and Santorini or Mykonos. Overnight car ferries are a more leisurely option. Santorini to Crete takes approximately 2.5 hours by high-speed ferry. Our island-hopping itineraries include all inter-island ferry or flight transfers as listed, and our guides assist with timings, luggage and dockside logistics throughout.
Our Greece packages include hand-picked hotel accommodation — often boutique cave-style hotels in Santorini, stone guesthouses in Crete and central Athens properties — English-speaking local guides, listed transport including ferries and transfers, entrance fees to major sites including the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum and Knossos, and selected meals. International flights from Australia are not included. Popular add-ons including private yacht charters, Greek cooking classes and additional island extensions can all be arranged on request.
Absolutely — Greece pairs beautifully with Italy (fly Rome–Athens in 2 hours), Croatia's Dalmatian coast, or Turkey's Aegean shores from Santorini or Rhodes. We can design custom multi-country Mediterranean itineraries. Greece is also part of our broader European Tours programme — combine it with Paris, Italian Highlights or a Balkans circuit.
