Italy is Not One Country
It is Many

Rome's imperial grandeur, Venice's Byzantine opulence, the Amalfi Coast's cliff villages, Tuscany's Renaissance perfection — each region is a distinct civilisation. We help you choose wisely and experience deeply.

🎫
Skip-the-Line Access — Vatican, Colosseum & Uffizi

We secure timed-entry permits at booking. The Vatican queue in high season takes 2–3 hours without advance booking. Our guests walk past it and start the tour immediately.

🌅
Early Morning Access — Before the Crowds

Rome's Colosseum, the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel are profoundly different at 8:30 AM than at noon. We schedule major monuments at first entry. It changes the entire encounter.

🍽️
We Eat Where Italians Eat

Our guides choose restaurants by quality, not commission. A Trastevere trattoria chosen by our local guide for 20 years of consistency — not because they take tourist bookings. That is a completely different dinner.

14 Days🇮🇹 Complete Italy

The definitive Italy itinerary — all the classics connected by high-speed trains and private coastal transfers, with time to breathe in each city. Italy from north to south, done properly.

Italy Package Itineraries

Three of our most popular Italy journeys written in full — so you can taste the espresso and feel the cobblestones before you decide.

D1
Arrive Rome — Trastevere EveningPrivate transfer from Fiumicino. Evening orientation walk through the cobbled lanes of Trastevere — Rome's oldest continuously inhabited neighbourhood. Welcome dinner of cacio e pepe, amatriciana and supplì at a neighbourhood trattoria chosen by our guide for decades of consistency, not tourist bookings.
D2
Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine HillEarly morning entry to the Colosseum with access to the arena floor, where gladiators stood. Your guide explains the building's engineering and what the 50,000-seat crowd saw. On to the Forum and Palatine Hill, where the emperors lived above the city they ruled. Afternoon free for the Capitoline Museums.
D3
Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter'sSkip-the-line entry to the Vatican Museums at 8:00 AM — the Gallery of Maps, the Raphael Rooms, the Sistine Chapel. Your guide unpacks the iconography Michelangelo buried in the ceiling. On to St Peter's Basilica and Bernini's baldachin. Evening food walk in Campo de' Fiori.
D4
Baroque Rome — Pantheon, Trevi & MontiThe Pantheon at 9:00 AM — exactly as Hadrian commissioned it in 125 AD. The Trevi Fountain. Then the artisan neighbourhood of Monti — independent bookshops, ceramics studios and the city's best neighbourhood espresso. Optional Villa Borghese gallery (reserve at booking).
D5
Mercato Centrale & Roman Food CultureMorning at Mercato Centrale — tastings with artisan producers of pasta, salumi, cheese and pastry. Afternoon free. Our guide provides a personally selected list of restaurants calibrated to your group's taste from the previous days.
D6
Depart Rome or Pompeii ExtensionPrivate transfer to Fiumicino for your onward connection. Or: the optional Pompeii day-trip — south along the Tyrrhenian coast to the Roman city frozen in AD 79. Expert guide through the Forum, amphitheatre, bakeries and House of the Faun, with optional Vesuvius lower slopes.
🌋 Optional Pompeii Day-Trip Available
D1
Arrive Venice — St Mark's at DuskPrivate water taxi from Santa Lucia station — the correct introduction to Venice, from the water. Orientation walk to St Mark's Square as the Basilica's mosaics catch the last gold light. Cicchetti and ombra at a bacaro in Dorsoduro.
D2
Doge's Palace, Basilica & the Grand CanalSkip-the-line entry to St Mark's Basilica — the gilded Pentecost dome and Pala d'Oro. Then the Doge's Palace with the Secret Itineraries tour if available. Afternoon: private gondola through the quiet canals of Cannaregio — not the tourist Grand Canal route, but the residential Venice the guide knows.
D3
Murano, Burano & the Venetian LagoonBoat to Murano — a working glass island, not a tourist destination. Watch a maestro make chandeliers using 14th-century techniques. On to Burano and its lace-makers. Rialto Market on return for cicchetti and the best Aperol spritz in Venice.
D4

The towns of Varenna, Bellagio and Tremezzo each have an entirely different character. Private motorboat option for the afternoon.
D6
Depart Milan or Cinque Terre ExtensionTransfer to Milan Malpensa for your international connection. Or: Cinque Terre extension — train to La Spezia, the five villages by coastal path or boat, finishing with fresh pesto pasta in Manarola as the light leaves the cliffs.

D3
The Amalfi Drive — Positano, Amalfi & RavelloPrivate transfer along the SS163 — the world's most famous coastal road. Positano's coloured cliff-stacked houses. Amalfi's duomo and best granita. Ravello: the Terrazza dell'Infinito at Villa Cimbrone, 300m above the sea — the view that has made people weep since 1904.
D4
Cooking Class & Limoncello — Coastal Food DayHands-on cooking class focused on southern Italian coastal recipes — paccheri al ragù napoletano, mozzarella di bufala, sfogliatelle pastry. Then a family-run limoncello producer in the lemon groves above Sorrento. Afternoon free for a private sunset boat cruise.
D5

Essential Italy Travel Information

Key practical details for Australians visiting Italy.

📅

Best Time to Visit

Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the ideal seasons — mild temperatures, manageable crowds and the harvest or bloom seasons. Summer is warm but crowded, particularly on the Amalfi Coast and in Venice. Winter offers the quietest cities and best museum access, though the Amalfi Coast slows from November to March.

🛂

Visas & ETIAS

Australian passport holders enter Italy and the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU ETIAS pre-registration was expected to be implemented — check Smartraveller.gov.au for current status before booking. We provide complete entry requirement guidance at time of booking.

👟

Packing for Italy

Comfortable, worn-in walking shoes are the single most important item. Rome, Venice, Florence and the Amalfi villages are all cobblestone. Bring a lightweight layer for the Vatican — shoulders and knees must be covered for entry. Smart-casual for restaurants. A light waterproof jacket for spring and autumn in the north.

💶

Currency & Costs

Italy uses the Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities but carry cash for markets, smaller trattorie and taxis. Budget approximately AUD $100–150 per day above your tour costs for personal expenses, gelato, wine and the things you cannot resist. The best experiences in Italy — a glass of Barolo at a Piemontese cantina, a cornetto from a 6 AM bakery — rarely cost very much.

Italy Travel Reviews

From Australians who have explored Italy with Cooee Tours.

★★★★★

"The guide in Rome took us to a trattoria in Trastevere with no menu in English and no English on the sign outside. It was the best meal of my life. The transfers were seamless — I never had a moment of uncertainty across two weeks in Italy. That is what Cooee gives you."

"Pompeii was extraordinary — not just the ruins, but the guide who explained what each building meant. A bakery with the bread still in the oven. A fast-food counter with the menu still on the wall. A city frozen mid-morning in AD 79. I have been to many ancient sites. This one is different."

"The Amalfi Coast boat day felt exclusive because it was — our group, our boat, our schedule. We swam at a cove the guide has been going to for thirty years that doesn't appear on any map. My husband took a photograph that became my phone screensaver for six months."

Italy Travel Packages FAQ

The questions Australians ask before booking Italy with Cooee.

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the ideal times — mild temperatures, manageable crowds and the harvest and bloom seasons in the countryside. Summer (July to August) is warm and vibrant but the most crowded and expensive, particularly on the Amalfi Coast and in Venice. Winter offers the quietest cities and best museum access. We recommend April, May, September and early October as the optimal travel windows from Australia.
Absolutely — combining packages is one of the most popular approaches for Australians visiting Italy. Rome + Amalfi + Tuscany + Venice is the classic 14–18 day circuit. We arrange all transfers including high-speed Frecciarossa trains (Rome to Florence in 90 minutes, Florence to Venice in 2 hours) and private coastal transfers on the Amalfi. Contact us and we will design a seamless multi-package itinerary around your dates, pace and budget.
Yes — Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel tickets must be booked well in advance. In peak season (April to September), the queue without advance booking can take 2–3 hours. We secure all skip-the-line Vatican access at the time of tour booking — our guests walk past the queue and begin the tour immediately. The Colosseum and Uffizi Gallery work similarly. All three are included in their respective packages and arranged at time of booking.
Italy is generally very safe for Australian tourists. The main concerns are pickpocketing in crowded tourist areas — particularly on public transport and at major attractions in Rome and Florence. Our guides brief every group on current local conditions and practical tips. Check Smartraveller.gov.au for any specific current advisories before departure.
Pompeii is approximately 240km south of Rome — a 2.5-hour private drive or a train journey via Naples. Our extension is a full day (10–12 hours) including private transport and an expert guide at the site. Pompeii involves significant walking on uneven volcanic stone — comfortable, flat-soled shoes are essential. An informed guide transforms the experience. We strongly recommend booking this extension as spaces fill quickly in high season.
