Food & Wine Tour Reviews

From Australian food lovers who have travelled the world's flavours with Cooee Tours.

★★★★★

"The truffle hunt in the Crete Senesi was the single most extraordinary food experience of my life. We followed the dogs through the oak forest at dawn and then sat at the hunter's family table eating scrambled eggs with fresh truffle shaved directly over them. Cooee arranged what no travel agent I'd ever worked with could."

"Standing in a Burgundy cave tasting a 2015 Chambertin with the Domaine owner explaining why that particular vintage changed his understanding of his own vines — I can't describe how that felt. The Michelin lunch in Lyon was magnificent. The group of 12 became close friends by day three. I've already booked Spain."

"Japan blew my mind in ways I couldn't anticipate. Our guide took us to a ramen shop where the chef had been perfecting his broth for 22 years. He spoke no English and she translated every detail. I came home with Japanese knives, a book of food recommendations for my next visit and a completely different understanding of what dedication to craft looks like."

Food & Wine Tours FAQ

Everything Australians ask before booking a culinary tour with Cooee.

Our food and wine tours include hand-picked accommodation, expert food-focused local guides or sommeliers, all listed tastings and cooking classes, entrance fees to markets and producers, most meals and all scheduled transport. International flights from Australia are not included. Typically 8–10 breakfasts, a mix of lunches and dinners are included, with some evenings left free for independent exploration using our local restaurant recommendations.
Not at all. Our food and wine tours are designed for curious, enthusiastic travellers — not wine professionals. Our guides and sommeliers explain everything accessibly and in plain language, and the focus is always on enjoyment, discovery and the stories behind the food and wine rather than formal qualification. Many guests arrive knowing very little about wine and leave with a genuinely transformed palate and a cellar to start building.
Yes — we accommodate vegetarians, vegans and all dietary requirements on every tour. Please advise us at booking. Several destinations on our food tours have extraordinarily rich vegetarian traditions — Italian cuisine especially, as well as Japanese, Vietnamese and Moroccan food. Our guides know exactly how to navigate local restaurants and producers to ensure guests with any dietary requirement eat exceptionally well throughout the journey.
Quite a lot — these are our most immersive tours. Most itineraries include 3–5 formal cellar-door or winery tastings, 2–3 cooking classes or food workshops, multiple market visits with tastings, at least one Michelin-starred or celebrated restaurant meal and all listed food experiences. Our guides also brief the group each evening on the next day's eating and drinking, so you arrive at every restaurant and cellar with context, questions and genuine enthusiasm.
Yes — most guests return with wine, olive oil, truffles, specialty vinegars or other food products. Australian customs allows returning travellers 2.25 litres of alcohol duty-free and up to $900 of goods per person duty-free. For larger purchases, our guides assist with reputable wine shipping agents at each destination who handle customs documentation and temperature-controlled shipping directly to your Australian address. We plan shopping time into every wine-focused day.
