Small-group guided bike tours through Australia's most breathtaking landscapes. Road cycling, mountain biking, e-bike adventures and scenic coastal rides with expert local guides.
A cycling tour is more than just a ride — it is a deeply personal and immersive way to experience the world. Whether you are winding through charming ethnic villages in Vietnam, weaving between goats in Morocco, or pedalling past vintage cars in Cuba, a bike ride puts you right in the heart of the landscape.
At Cooee Tours, our cycling holidays combine the freedom of adventure biking with meaningful connections — to people, places, and fellow riders. Lycra shorts? Optional. A sense of curiosity and love for the ride? Essential.
Cycling holidays are quickly becoming one of the most popular and sustainable ways to explore the world, and it is easy to see why. You cover more ground than walking, yet travel slowly enough to absorb every sound, scent and sight along the way. There is no windscreen between you and the world — just open air, gentle motion and the kind of spontaneous discoveries that only happen when you are moving at pedal pace.
From gentle rail trail rides through Australian wine country to challenging mountain passes in the European Alps, our curated cycling tours are designed for every level of rider. Whether you are a first-time tourer or a seasoned road cyclist, there is a Cooee cycling adventure waiting for you.
And while a smart indoor trainer like Peloton is great for home fitness, nothing beats the fresh air, camaraderie, and stories that unfold on a real-world ride.
Australia offers some of the most diverse and spectacular cycling terrain on the planet. From the rugged coastline of Victoria to the pristine wilderness of Tasmania and the sun-drenched vineyards of South Australia, every state delivers a unique experience on two wheels. Here are our most popular Australian cycling routes.
Victoria
Australia's most iconic coastal road stretches 243 kilometres past surf towns, cliff-top lookouts and the legendary Twelve Apostles. The section between Lorne and Apollo Bay is a cycling highlight, with uninterrupted ocean views and rolling terrain that rewards every pedal stroke. Best tackled in autumn when the tourist crowds thin out and the weather is mild.
Tasmania
Tasmania's premier cycling route spans 220 kilometres from Launceston to Hobart, passing through Freycinet National Park, the Bay of Fires and the wine country of the Coal River Valley. Daily rides range from 24 to 88 kilometres with full vehicle support. The mild weather between October and March makes this an ideal cycling holiday destination.
Victoria
This iconic 104-kilometre rail trail unfolds through the Victorian High Country, connecting the historic gold-rush town of Beechworth with the alpine village of Bright. The route passes through Milawa's wine country and Myrtleford's farmlands, with mostly flat or gentle slopes ideal for leisure cyclists. Autumn colours in March to May make this route particularly stunning.
South Australia
South Australia's celebrated wine regions unfold over 130 kilometres by e-bike. The Coast to Vines trail connects Marino Rocks to McLaren Vale, joining the Amy Gillett Bikeway and the Barossa Valley's world-renowned wineries. Daily rides average 25 to 30 kilometres, leaving plenty of time for cellar door tastings and gourmet lunches at award-winning restaurants.
Queensland
At 161 kilometres, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is Australia's longest rail trail, tracing the former Brisbane Valley rail line through historic towns and sweeping rural Queensland landscapes. Best ridden from June to August when subtropical temperatures are cool and comfortable. Refuel at country bakeries and pubs along the way while soaking up the laid-back Queensland atmosphere.
Tasmania
For riders seeking something more adventurous, the Blue Derby trail network near Launceston is a world-class mountain biking destination. Over 125 kilometres of purpose-built single track wind through temperate rainforest and old tin-mining landscapes. Trails range from beginner-friendly flow runs to expert-level descents, making it a perfect choice for groups with mixed abilities.
Our cycling adventures extend far beyond Australia's shores. We offer guided bike tours across six continents, each designed to showcase the best of a region through immersive riding experiences combined with cultural encounters, local cuisine, and unforgettable landscapes.
Asia
Pedal through the terraced rice paddies of Vietnam, explore ancient temples in Cambodia by bike, or navigate the bustling streets of Rajasthan, India. Our Asia cycling tours run year-round and offer some of the most culturally rich riding experiences on the planet. Expect vibrant markets, warm hospitality and cuisine that fuels every kilometre.
Europe
From the rolling vineyards of Tuscany and Provence to the dramatic fjords of Scandinavia, Europe is a cyclist's paradise. Our European cycling holidays typically run from spring through autumn, with routes ranging from gentle wine country meanders to challenging alpine passes. Expect charming village stops, world-class food and cycling infrastructure that is second to none.
Africa & Middle East
Ride through the red deserts of Jordan, weave between ancient medinas in Morocco, or cycle alongside wildlife on an East African expedition. These cycling tours combine dramatic landscapes with profound cultural immersion. We carefully time departures to avoid extreme heat, running tours during the milder months for a safe and enjoyable riding experience.
New Zealand
New Zealand's compact geography packs an incredible variety of cycling terrain into a small area. Ride past glacial lakes on the South Island, explore the volcanic plateau of the North Island, or follow the growing network of Great Rides on the Nga Haerenga cycle trail network. Clean air, stunning scenery and superb cycling infrastructure await across the Tasman.
Central America
Explore the vibrant colours and rich history of Central America on two wheels. Pedal past colonial architecture in Cuba, ride through the cloud forests of Costa Rica, or cycle along Guatemala's volcanic highlands. Our Central American cycling tours deliver adventure, warmth and authenticity at every turn, with support vehicles and local guides who know every hidden corner.
Australia
Beyond the headline routes, Australia offers countless cycling experiences from the Flinders Ranges in South Australia to the Northern Rivers Rail Trail in New South Wales and the Munda Biddi Trail in Western Australia. Whether you seek coastal breezes, outback solitude or wine-country indulgence, our Australian cycling portfolio has a ride to match every mood.
Our road cycling tours follow sealed roads and dedicated bike paths, designed for riders who love smooth tarmac and consistent pace. Routes are carefully selected for scenic value and low traffic, with daily distances typically ranging from 40 to 80 kilometres. Whether you are riding the Great Ocean Road or exploring the Adelaide Hills, road cycling tours deliver the purest two-wheeled experience.
For those who prefer dirt under their tyres, our mountain biking tours visit world-class trail networks across Australia and beyond. From the Blue Derby trails in Tasmania to the rugged single track of Cappadocia in Turkey, these tours are built for riders who crave variety, technical challenge and immersion in wild landscapes. All mountain biking tours include quality bikes with full suspension, experienced guides and support vehicles.
E-bike tours are our fastest-growing category, and for good reason. An electric motor-assisted bike gives you a gentle boost when you pedal, making hills manageable and longer days enjoyable without sacrificing the sense of achievement. E-bike tours are perfect for mixed-ability groups, couples with different fitness levels, and anyone who wants to cover more ground with less effort. Most of our Australian wine country tours offer e-bike upgrades as standard.
Australia has invested heavily in rail trail infrastructure over the past decade, converting disused railway corridors into sealed or compacted gravel cycling paths free from vehicular traffic. Our rail trail tours — including the Murray to Mountains, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and the Riesling Trail in South Australia — are ideal for leisure cyclists and families. The gentle gradients and traffic-free surfaces make these some of the most relaxing cycling holidays you can experience.
Our multi-day cycling expeditions are fully supported adventures spanning five to fourteen days. Your accommodation is pre-booked, your luggage is transferred between stops, and all you need to carry is a light daypack. From Tasmania's east coast traverse to a two-week ride through Vietnam, multi-day tours combine the joy of cycling with the comfort of knowing every detail is taken care of.
If none of our scheduled tours quite fit what you are looking for, our Tailor-Made team will design a private cycling tour around your group's preferences, fitness levels and travel dates. With over 35 years of experience and specialist consultants who know every trail, we can create a bespoke cycling adventure anywhere in Australia or around the world.
We have been crafting premium small-group tours for over 35 years. Here is what sets our cycling adventures apart from the rest.
Every cycling tour includes bike hire at no extra cost, with bikes available in a full range of sizes from extra small to extra large. Our fleet is selected specifically for the terrain you will be covering and is regularly serviced by qualified mechanics. We often use reliable models from well-known brands like Trek, chosen for comfort and durability on both road cycling routes and mountain biking trails. Touring bike and e-bike upgrades are available at additional cost.
With a maximum group size of 16 riders — usually closer to 10 — our bike tours offer an intimate, social atmosphere. Small groups mean more flexibility, closer access to hidden gems, and plenty of laughs and stories shared between fellow cycling enthusiasts. You will never feel like just another number on a crowded coach tour.
Our guides are locals and total cycling enthusiasts. They have been trained in safety, storytelling, and all things two-wheeled. Whether it is a quiet cafe for your post-ride espresso or an off-the-map biking trail only the locals know, they know exactly where to take you. Every leader has ridden every inch of the itinerary in advance and is trained in cycling health and safety and basic first aid.
All cycling adventures are thoroughly risk-assessed and backed by guides trained in basic first aid. Most of our cycling tours include a support vehicle that follows the group for the entire trip — ready for weather detours, rest breaks, mechanical issues, or unexpected challenges on the road. We run risk assessments on all cycling routes including road conditions, traffic and potential blind spots.
When you ride with us, you are part of a bigger journey. We support World Bicycle Relief through our foundation — helping get touring bikes into the hands of children, health workers, and farmers in low-income communities. It is not just a bike ride; it is a ripple effect of positive impact that extends far beyond your tour.
Riding is good for the body, the soul, and the planet. Our trips are 100 percent carbon offset, and many are powered entirely by your pedal strokes. Compared to driving or flying between destinations, even a short cycling holiday is one of the greenest travel choices you can make. Sustainable tourism is not just a buzzword for us — it is built into every route we design.
Most days you will ride between 30 and 60 kilometres at a leisurely pace. Mornings usually start with a hearty breakfast at your accommodation before a group briefing from your cycling leader. Then you hit the road, stopping regularly for photos, snacks, and cultural experiences along the way. Lunches are often at local restaurants or scenic picnic spots. Afternoons are yours to explore, relax, or join optional activities before a group dinner brings the day to a close.
Your accommodation is pre-booked at quality properties — typically three to four star hotels, boutique lodges, or character-filled guesthouses selected for their bike-friendly amenities and convenient access to cycling routes. Your luggage is transferred from one stop to the next by the support vehicle, so all you need to carry is a lightweight daypack with your essentials: phone, snacks, sunscreen, and a couple of layers to keep you dry and warm.
Our cycling tours are not races. When possible, our leaders let faster riders set their own pace, but generally the group rides together with plenty of opportunities to regroup at scenic stops. If you need a break, the support vehicle is always nearby. For couples or groups with mixed fitness levels, e-bike upgrades ensure everyone can enjoy the same ride without compromise.
Cycling is the main draw, but there is plenty to do off the saddle too. Depending on the tour, you might find yourself floating in the Dead Sea, touring the Taj Mahal, drifting to a Vietnamese fishing village in a traditional basket boat, or tasting wines at a cellar door in the Barossa Valley. You will also have free time and rest days to explore on your own — your leader can always recommend the best local experiences.
We recommend lightweight, breathable clothing that dries quickly. A couple of padded cycling shorts add comfort on longer days. Closed-toe shoes with rubber soles are essential for riding — quick-drying cycling shoes with a slightly stiff sole work best. Bring a separate pair of comfortable shoes for off-the-bike exploring. Helmets are compulsory on all our tours, and we recommend bringing your own well-fitting, approved helmet from home.
If you prefer using clip-in pedals, bring your own pedals and mountain bike-style shoes (rather than road bike shoes, as you will do a fair bit of walking in towns and cities). Our cycling leaders or mechanics are happy to fit your pedals and saddle to your assigned bike.
Choosing the right season can make or break your cycling holiday. Here is a quick reference guide to the best riding months across our most popular destinations.

Got questions about our cycling holidays? Here are answers to the most common queries from our riders.
We offer over 20 cycling trips that visit more than 20 countries across six continents. Whether you are craving lush mountainscapes, breezy coastlines, vineyard-lined valleys or rugged outback terrain, there is a tour for you.
While cycling is at the heart of these trips, there are always plenty of activities off the saddle — from cooking classes to wine tasting — as well as opportunities to rest and recharge with local food and hospitality. Our cycling tours cater to every type of traveller, from leisure riders to those seeking real adventure biking. Check the Essential Trip Information for the physical rating and full itinerary.
Anyone with a reasonable fitness level will have no trouble on most of our tours. Most days you will ride between 30 and 60 kilometres at a leisurely pace. When possible, our leaders let faster riders set their own pace, but generally the group rides together with plenty of stops for scenery and snacks.
Most tours also offer e-bike hire for an additional cost — e-bikes will not do all the work for you, but they make hills and longer days significantly easier. A support vehicle follows the group in case you need a rest break. Whether you are interested in scenic bike rides or full-day cycling tours, there is flexibility built in. Check the physical rating in the Essential Trip Information to ensure the trip suits your fitness level.
Not at all. Our trips are not about racing from A to B — they are about exploring the heart of a destination on two wheels. You will ride predominantly on sealed roads with the occasional unsealed section, but none of the tours require specialist cycling skills. You do not even need to be a regular cyclist.
We also offer easier routes and side options for anyone looking to ease into a cycling holiday. If you are an avid rider, we have researched extra routes in each destination, so you can stretch your legs further if you wish.
Absolutely. Our cycling tours are designed to cater to all skill levels — and sometimes non-cyclists too. Rides are broken into manageable sections with plenty of rest and photo stops, and we avoid big climbs where possible. A support vehicle follows the group for the entire trip in case you need a short or long break.
Many tours include the option to hire an e-bike for an extra fee. E-bikes have an electric motor that makes cycling up hills and along flats noticeably easier. Let us know when booking if you would like to request an e-bike.
Yes. Bike hire is included in the trip price. The bikes we use are from trusted brands, very well maintained, and chosen specifically for the terrain you will be covering. They come in a full range of sizes from extra small to extra large and usually feature front suspension, flat bars and 27 gears.
You can request a touring bike upgrade or bring your own bike if you prefer. Please advise us of your height when booking so we can assign you a bike accordingly. For added comfort, you could bring your own saddle or gel overcover, and if you use cleats, bring your pedals and shoes too.
Most of our cycling tours include the option to hire an e-bike for an additional fee. An e-bike is an electric motor-assisted bike that gives you a boost when you pedal — particularly handy for uphill stretches. You get to enjoy all aspects of a cycling trip with less physical effort.
E-bikes are a great option for mixed-ability groups or longer bike tours. We have limited e-bike availability, so if you would like to request one, please let us know when booking.
You can usually bring your own bike from home. Be sure to let us know when booking so we can ensure your bike is appropriate for the terrain. If you bring your bike, you will need to box it up for transport on the plane — your local bike shop can help with this and often has boxes on hand from old stock.
Airline fees may apply, so check with your airline about costs before booking. We recommend bringing your own bike especially for longer cycling holidays or more technical routes like mountain biking or gravel biking trails.
Helmets are compulsory on our cycling tours. We do not provide or hire helmets directly, so we strongly recommend bringing your own approved, well-fitting helmet from home. Your leader may be able to suggest a local bike store when you arrive, but it is best not to rely on this.
Our bike seats are unisex, but saddle preferences are very personal — you are welcome to bring your own or a gel seat cover for extra comfort. Our bikes have flat pedals, so if you prefer clip-in pedals, bring them along with mountain bike-style shoes (rather than road bike shoes, as you will do plenty of walking in towns and cities). Our cycling leaders are happy to fit your personal equipment to your bike.
Your accommodation is pre-booked and luggage is transferred from one point to the next by the support vehicle. All you need to carry is a lightweight daypack with your essentials — phone, snacks, sunscreen and a couple of layers to keep you dry and warm. Our bikes also have water bottle holders for easy access on the go. Everything else is handled for you — that is the benefit of a fully supported cycling tour.
All our tours have a cycling leader, a mechanic and a support vehicle. The support vehicle is there in case anyone gets injured, needs a rest, or road or weather conditions become unsafe. We run risk assessments on all cycling trips covering road conditions, traffic and potential blind spots.
Generally, your leader rides at the front of the group, guiding the way and controlling the pace. In some destinations, the support vehicle acts as the back marker, ensuring constant support and making sure no one gets left behind. On some trips, a separate rider also brings up the rear. Most tours depart during milder months when weather conditions are optimal for safe and pleasant riding.
Not as a rule. However, any injuries suffered while riding should be covered by a comprehensive travel insurance policy. We can recommend some good providers if you are unsure. It is important to double-check the fine print before departing. Travel insurance is compulsory on all our cycling trips, and you should make sure your policy explicitly covers cycling holidays and adventure biking activities.
It depends on the destination. Most of our Asia cycling trips run year-round. In places like Jordan and Morocco where the climate is more extreme, we avoid peak summer and deep winter months. Over in Europe, most tours run between spring and autumn. Summer is the most popular season, but the shoulder months of April to May or September to October offer smaller crowds and pleasant riding temperatures. For Australian tours, refer to our seasonal guide above for specific recommendations by region.
Cycling is the main draw, but there are always plenty of activities off the saddle. Depending on the tour, you might find yourself visiting ancient temples, floating in the Dead Sea, exploring local markets, taking cooking classes, or tasting wines at boutique cellar doors. You will have free time and rest days to explore on your own, and your leader is always on hand with recommendations. It is more than a bike tour — it is a full cultural experience.
There are not many places we have not been, so if you have a destination or trip in mind that is not on our list, our Tailor-Made team is here to help. We will use our 35 years of experience and match you with one of our specialist consultants to create your perfect cycling adventure. We can design a private cycling tour or custom biking trail experience tailored to your group's preferences, fitness levels and travel dates.
